Sculpture Trail - Melissa's Swing.
When I first saw this sculpture (during the Easter Weekend of 2003) I was amazed at the number of teenagers and young people surrounding it and actively swinging on it. My first reaction was one of scandalised shock - "But this is a Work Of Art!"
Then I recalled that I had read somewhere that at its' start it was not a swing but an Aeolian Harp - with the wind blowing through streamers of thin metal to make "shimmering metallic sounds." This was enhanced by a rope so that people could pull on it to make their own sound ... "They'll swing on it" - "So make it into a proper swing with a seat !"
