A Goodly Heritage.
But, like it or not, it is still the animal which, above all, has had the greatest visual effect upon the Forest. To them we owe our neat green verges, and the clean floor of the open woodland. To them also, we owe the fouled pavements of our villages; and their frequent mangled corpses alongside the roads are eloquent testimony to the need to control such ancient customs in modern traffic conditions.
