And this is a view of the inside of the winding shed. A jumble of wires, controls and equipment allowed the full coal tubs to be hauled up the inclined 'road' to the surface, loaded with half a ton or so of coal, and then when emptied allowed to run down the slope back into the mine. The winding gear would have been used to slow down the speed of the empty tubs so that they didn't go off the road.
