Still the place can be seen where the blood of these men was shed and the story goes that no amount of rubbing and washing has yet been able to remove the evidence of the dastardly deed.

For what really happened was this; 'The Roundheads had surrounded the house, whose inhabitants held out the white flag. Someone in the house, whether by accident or design, fired and killed a trooper and in revenge the attackers killed all the garrison'.

There is another old story relating to Dean Hall. In the house hung the portrait of a young man with a negro slave, the latter wearing a silver collar. It is said the ghost of the slave haunts the house, where it is said to have been murdered.
